Elder Care
Stanford's elder care and caregiver services are provided in partnership
with Avenidas. Avenidas is a multi-service
nonprofit agency. It serves individuals 50 and older and the family members
and caregivers who assist them. Avenidas identifies, develops and delivers
innovative services to enhance the independence, health, and well-being of
its clients.
The WorkLife Office coordinates this program for Stanford University. Avenidas
materials and other community resources can be sent or faxed to you.
CAREGIVER SUPPORT
If you have caregiving responsibilities for a parent,
spouse, partner or other relative either close by or in another part of the country Avenidas
is there to work with you. They offer:
- Information on Midpeninsula community resources
- What to expect about the aging process
- Confidential social worker consultation
- Support groups for adult children or other caregivers coping with aging
relatives
- Support groups for spouses/partners assisting less independent older adults
- Assessment, planning, coordination of services for frailer older adults,
and monitoring of the situations
- Out-of-home care up to five days a week with extended hours for working
caregivers

- Food & Nutrition including a daily hot luncheon
for those 60 and older

STANFORD'S ON-SITE SERVICES
Caregiver Support Group
The WorkLife Office and Avenidas offer a noontime campus
support group for those community members who are caregivers or dealing with
caregiver issues in their lives. The group meets from 12:00-1:00 PM on the
second Thursday of each month in the Conference Room of Building 310. It is
highly interactive, with a chance for all participants to share and problems
solve together. Diane Wilson of Avenidas facilitates the group. For more information

"Brown Bag" Seminars
The WorkLife Office offers quarterly Brown Bag Seminars on
central campus that are free and open to all members of the Stanford community.
Lending Library
